[identity profile] didykat.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] ethnobotanpharm

Hello... I'm new to the community and thought I'd say hello to you all before I asked my question. Also, because I'm fairly new to living a natural lifestyle and using herbs/holistic alternatives I'm sure I'll be asking questions frequently. It's cool to have found some like minded people to help me out.
Anyways. I was curious as to anyones opinion concerning body cleanses (detoxification). I've been interested in doing one to rid the 25 years of filth that's gathered in my body. But, I'm a bit hesitant due to the lack of knowledge about them... and even more so because some of the kits one could buy via internet seem to be grossly over priced!  If anyone has any insight... please feel free. Also, if anyone knows of a much cheaper way (if need be I'll get my own herbs and the like) or a preferred method I'd love to hear about it.

Thanks for the help!

I recommend Triphala because it is safe, balanced, and good for long term use.
It will remove metabolic waste, normalize digestion and clean the alumentary canal.

Juice fasts are good too, I can recommend other cleanses depending on your need.

Triphala will do all of those, but I can recommmend others to use in conjunction to speed detox.

What kinda illnesses are you trying to correct?

Eric

It's best to figuer out your metabolic body type (Dosha) and balance based on that. also you can apply detox/cleanses which are compatable with that body type.

Most people are only interested in this after disease appears, it's good to see someone who wants to learn preventive medicine.

Another thing I meant to post, You can do a major detox at the changing of the seasons (right before spring and right before winter), this a traditional preventative medicine in Ayurveda.
You would be able to do the spring cleaning soon, and prepare for the summer.

Yours Sincerely,

Eric

Despite the authors' claims, "eating right for your blood type" has no scientific foundation. John Robbins has written about this to some extent, as well as other diet experts, and I've talked to actual scientists about it: the blood food-plan is a hoax.

"Dosha" refers to your... well, the best way I can put it is your "body type" in the Ayurvedic tradition (note: your "body type" refers more to how you metabolize food and what foods make your body function best rather than, say, how your body looks). The word "Ayurveda" litereally translates to mean "science of life and longevity." Thus, the Ayurveda is an Indian tradition of homeopathic living and healing. There are numerous resources available to learn more about it, both on and offline, but if you just want to discover your dosha (and gain a brief understanding of what that dosha means for you), I suggest googling the term "Ayurveda."

I just did a juice fast, and it cleaned my body out really great. I know there is more work to be done, but even that little bit has made a difference in how I feel. Something to consider when doing a juice fast is that solids help to pull out wastes, so when you eliminate their consumption, your body can release toxins without FULLY releasing them. A good way to remedy this is to add bentonite clay and/or psyllium (available online and at most health food stores) to your juices once a day. There are resources available online that can tell you just how much to use.

If you are not ready to full-on fast, you can also start eating a "detox diet," ie. indulging in foods that promote good health and the elimination of wastes (so avoid sugar, alochol, yeast, etc. but eat things rich in antioxidants and phytonutrients and stuff). While perhaps not as effective, it's still a step in the right direction.

When doing this -- or any detox stuff, really -- it's good to do a colon cleanse. An easy way to do this is with a water enema. Enema kits are available at most drug stores, and they help clean out the sludge that is caked on the sides of your colon, which is very important because you don't want to clean out your system only to have waste residues re-infecting you.

After detoxing is complete, it is important to maintain a lifestyle that promotes a limitation in the toxins you introduce to your body. You may want to consider an organic, vegetarian, vegan, or raw-food diet. Anyway, I hope you found this information useful. Good luck with everything!

I would definitely look into [livejournal.com profile] return2vishnu 's products. I am a firm believer in Ayurveda, and he is way ahead of me on formulation of Ayurvedic formulas. I intend to buy his products too.

I would NOT do business with Blessed Herbs, personally. I used to work for Frontier Products (http://www.frontiercoop.com ) and they are a customer of theirs. If you have a business, or just want to set one up, then do that and get it at the same cost these bozos are. There is NO reason for you to be paying retail markup plus their own percentage.

There are tons of ways to detoxify, and theirs is no more special than anyone else's out there.
