Aromatherapy for dogs?
Sep. 2nd, 2004 06:53 pmHey I have a question about pet aromatherapy that maybe someone might be able to answer. My Cocker Spaniel is 12 years old and she has hair loss due to excema. I was wondering if there are any essential oils that I could use on her for either excema or hair loss. Any help would be much appreciated.

Date: 2004-09-02 05:10 pm (UTC)I volunteer on Fridays as a Veterinary Assistant for a Veterinarian who does conventional and holistic medicine for animales. I'll ask him if he can recommend anything when I go in tomorrow.
A couple of questions: does your dog have any allergies? Have you changed her diet in any way? Do you know what may be triggering her excema?
I get excema too, and I've used lavender oil mixed with carrot oil in a hypoallergenic cream to releve the redness and stinging on my face. I've also applied lavebder oil neat to me face.
I'll post what the Veterinanian says when I get back from the clinic tomorrow.

Date: 2004-09-03 10:22 pm (UTC)If you can get to a Luch Cosmetics, or can order from them online, they have a cream called Dream Cream (http://www2.lush.com/cgi-bin/lushdb/31?ID=cw8EqSjM:expand=00010:upd=y) that I use on my sensitive excema-pone skin. I had a Carin Terrier who had very sensitive skin, and after I bathed him I'd rub a little of this cream into his hot spots.
I hope something works out for you!
